Ramirez-Liverpool FC? Sahin-Arsenal FC? Hulk-Chelsea FC? Top 5 transfer targets

There is just one week to go until the summer transfer window closes, and the likes of Gaston Ramirez, Nuri Sahin, and Hulk continue to be linked with moves to the Premier League.

Here’s Crunchsports.com’s look at five players currently playing overseas who could be plying their trade in the Premier League this season before the transfer window closes at the end of the month…

Gaston Ramirez (Bologna to Liverpool, Tottenham, or Southampton)
Many Liverpool fans thought this deal was done a few weeks back but newly-promoted Southampton emerged as shock contenders to sign the highly-rated 21-year-old last week after he rejected a move to Tottenham due to them being unwilling to meet his personal demands.

Ramirez last week confirmed he was ready to move to St Mary’s, which led to Bologna president Albano Guaraldi blasting the player for giving two interviews in which he claimed a deal was close, and also led to protests from fans, who are keen for him to stay at the club.

Ramirez’s agent, Pablo Betancourt, has this week said that a move to Saints is now unlikely and that his client could remain with Bologna this season unless their valuation – believed to be around £16m – is met.

Reports in the past 24 hours, however, have suggested that Liverpool and Spurs are still showing interest, while Inter Milan are also believed to be considering a bid. This one may well rumble on until transfer deadline day.

Nuri Sahin (Real Madrid to Arsenal or Liverpool)

Both Arsenal and Liverpool have shown interest in Sahin for some time.

An agreement between Arsenal and Real Madrid was reached earlier this week and it was widely expected that the 23-year-old would move to Emirates Stadium this week, but on Thursday morning it emerged that Liverpool had made a late swoop to secure the midfielder’s services for this season.

And according to Sky Sports’ Spanish pundit Guillem Balague, Liverpool now also have an agreement in place with Los Blancos, leaving Sahin with a decision to make about his future.

Expect this one to be resolved pretty quickly.

Cesar Azpilicueta (Marseille to Chelsea)

Chelsea have been busy in the transfer market this summer but are yet to bring in a replacement at right-back for Jose Bosingwa, who was released at the end of last season. The Spaniard is a long-term target for the Blues, and although Marseille were insisting on Thursday that a fee was yet to be agreed, this one should go through after the player said his goodbyes to the Marseille fans last weekend.

Update: Marseille and Chelsea announced on Friday afternoon the deal had gone through!

Clint Dempsey (Fulham to Liverpool)

Liverpool have been linked with Dempsey throughout the summer and the player is known to be keen on a move to Anfield. We were ready to write about how we expected this deal to go through, until it emerged on Thursday afternoon that Fulham have made a formal complaint to the Premier League about the Merseysiders’ pursuit of the United States international.

According to Goal.com, the complaint was lodged last month and was discussed at a meeting of the Premier League board.

Fulham insist Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has broken rules by going public with his interest in the 29-year-old.

Rodgers had last month admitted the club had spoken to Fulham officials about a deal

A statement read: “The Premier League has received a complaint from Fulham FC regarding certain comments made by Liverpool FC officials and is currently looking into the matter.”

The Premier League is expected to write to all parties before deciding whether to take further action. Whether this deal now goes through remains to be seen.

Hulk (Porto to Chelsea)

We actually expected this deal to be done before Euro 2012, but we are just a few days away from the transfer window closing and the Brazilan powerhouse is still a Porto player. Providing Chelsea can agree a fee with the Portuguese giants, we still expect Hulk to be taking over Didier Drogba’s jersey this season, although reports suggest Napoli forward Edinson Cavani is an alternative option for the big-spending Blues.
