Darwin Nunez transfer speculation hots up

With the absence of a major football tournament taking place this summer, the transfer window is set to be front and centre of everybody’s attention during the summer break. It was widely predicted that the transfer window would revolve around the new destinations of both Erling Haaland and Kylian Mpabbe but there is now a new name to add to that list and that is young Uruguayan striker Darwin Nunez.

Nunez who looks to be the heir apparent to Edinson Cavani and Luis Suarez has had a great season for Benfica and is commanding attention from most of Europe’s biggest clubs.

At just 22, Nunez is comfortably out in front at the top of the Portuguese league’s goal standings. On the European stage, Nunez has been equally efficient scoring five goals so far in this season’s Champions League.

Nunez will also get the opportunity to lead the line for Uruguay in the upcoming 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

Whilst Haaland and Mpabbe are still likely to attract the most attention this summer, whoever ends up landing Nunez will have secured the transfer of one of the world’s most promising young talents.
