Top two in Liga Nacional de Fútbol de Guatemala both lose

Malacateco and Comunicaciones, who started the weekend in first and second place, both lost which meant that the teams behind them made up ground.

Top of the table Malacateco were unable to extend their lead as they lost 2-0 to Municipal. Their closest rivals before the weekend’s action, Comunicaciones, also lost against Achuapa.

With two first half goals from Argentine and former Malacateco striker Matías Rotondi, Municipal earned a key victory which boosts their own fight for the title as they moved up to third. Malacateco had a night to forget in their visit to Municipal. The team led by Roberto Hernández did not have the answers to the tactical approach of Municipal and lost for the first time in five games.

They were lucky that Comunicaciones lost 1-0 on their visit to Achuapa. ‘Los Cremas’ dropped down to fourth position but remained three points behind the leader. Cobán Imperial moved up to second place with a comfortable 5-1 win against Nueva Concepción.

On Wednesday, Comunicaciones will visit Iztapa while Cobán will fight for first place against Municipal.
