Villarreal want to extend Lo Celso stay

It’s been a momentous week for Villarreal who knocked out German giants Bayern Munich to reach the semi-finals of the Champions League. Villarreal had already knocked out Juventus to reach the quarter-final stage.

It’s been a funny season for the Yellow Submarine who qualified for this year’s Champions League following their victory in last season’s Europa League. Despite their heroics in Europe, Unai Emery’s side sit seventh in La Liga, and qualification for either the Europa League or Champions League looks unlikely.

One player who has impressed since their arrival in January has been Giovani Lo Celso. Lo Celso who arrived on loan from Tottenham has been a driving force in the Villarreal midfield and his performances against both Juventus and Bayern Munich have been impressive.

Rumors have started to circulate that Villarreal and Emery have been so impressed with Lo Celso that they intend to keep him at the club. However, Tottenham who spent £35 million on Lo Celso just a couple of seasons ago will be looking for a significant return on their investment.

Lo Celso’s current deal is just a straight loan and there isn’t an obligation to buy, if Spurs were to approve a second straight loan you would think a mandatory purchase clause would be implemented.
