After claiming its first win in the FIVB World League this season, Finland will try to make it two in a row over Portugal in today’s rematch.
The Finns snapped a four-match winless start in Pool E by sweeping Portugal 25–19 25–23 25–22 at the Vaasa Arena yesterday.
Olli-Pekka Ojansivu led the Northern Europeans with 16 points while Urpo Sivula added 13.
“We served well but struggled a bit with reception. Tomorrow will be another day and we must be tough to win again,” Finland coach Tuomas Sammelvuo said.
The Finns improved to five points in the pool.
Hugo Gaspar was the lone Portuguese player to hit double figures with 14 points.”We expected the strong serves from Finland and they came. This was a difficult game for us and we made too many mistakes,” Portugal coach Hugo Silva said on Friday night.
“It was not easy to play the attacks today. Tomorrow we will try to correct our mistakes and play better.”
The loss left winless Portugal (0-3) at the bottom of the pool with one point.
