Philippines Training Progress in Brazil

Philippines Preparation Progresses

The Philippine women’s volleyball team has steadily improved its chemistry in preparation for the upcoming 31st Southeast Asian Games.

The development was evident last week, as the PH spikers thrashed Sesi Sorocaba in five sets, 25-13, 25-19, 25-18, 25-17, 15-7, in front of the hosts’ adoring home crowd. The women’s national team avenged a five-set loss to Sao Caetano of Superliga A squad just one day after the Filipinos landed in Brazil after a tiring 36-hour trip from Manila.

The Brazilian head coach, Jorge Edson Souza de Brito, has three weeks to turn this assortment of individual talents into a cohesive force capable of defeating SEA Games giants like Thailand and Vietnam. The PH spikers’ next opponents are the under-21 Barueri club squad, who they will face twice in succession.

The two-week intensive preparation camp is critical for the squad to bring home a medal from the 31st Southeast Asian Games, held in Hanoi, Vietnam, from May 12th to the 23rd.
