Preview:

Poland will shoot for its second-straight win over Iran tonight in Pool B of the FIVB World League.

The Poles posted a 25–20 25–22 21–25 27–25 victory yesterday to improve 3-0 in the pool with eight points.

Bartosz Kurek proved too much for the Asian champions as the hard-hitting spiker dropped 30 points.

Mateusz Mika added 15 points while Michal Kubiak and Mateusz Bieniek chipped in 13 and 11, respectively.“I am of course very happy for this victory, but it was a hard game, especially in the end. I am sure that we can play better, in reception and service for example,” Poland head coach Stephane Antiga said on Friday night.

“We have some work to do in those two elements – starting from tomorrow’s game. It’s also important that we were not blocked that much by Iran, although we know that Iran can be very good and aggressive with blocking.”

Shahram Mahmoudi paced Iran with 16 points but he was the only player in the squad to hit twin digits.”We had problems with reception, block and even our counter-attack. In such a situation it’s hard to play on a high level,” Saeid Marouflakrani said.

“Our young players did change something but I think it was not enough. I think it was not their best day – they can play much better than today.”

Iran suffered its third-straight defeat to remain at the cellar with no points.
