Having secured the FIVB World Grand Prix crown, the United States can afford to relax in their final fixture against China at the CenturyLink Center Omaha.

The Americans clinched their sixth Grand Prix title after sweeping two-time defending champion Brazil 25-16 25-22 25-21 yesterday.

Christa Harmotto Dietzen led the way with 14 points including seven blocks while Karsta Lowe added 12. Kimberly Hill and Foluke Akinradewo added 10 points each for the reigning world champions, who secured their first Grand Prix crown since 2012.

The Americans improved to 4-0 in the Final Round with 12 points.

“Ten minutes after the match somebody told me the simple math that we were undefeated and everybody else has two losses at a minimum. I told the team congratulations, but we have a lot important work to do against China,” US head coach Karch Kiraly said in the post-match conference.

China, meanwhile, needs this win to secure the silver medal. The Asian giants are currently tied with Brazil and Russia in second spot with 2-2 records but they have seven points compared to only six for the other two nations. The Chinese are coming off a 27–25 25–20 25–19 victory over the Russians despite missing head coach Lang Ping and several key players like Zhu Ting.

Liu Yanhan topscored for the Chinese with 24 points while Zhang Changning added 13.

China edged the United States 3-2 in their Intercontinental Round duel in Hong Kong last July 18 but the Chinese fielded their best players in that match.
