Peter Moores has been sacked as England coach following a dismal World Cup campaign and the recent drawn Test series with West Indies.

Moores was fired on the same day that former captain Andrew Strauss was appointed as the new national director of cricket.

The 52-year-old, who also coached England between 2007 and 2009, said: “I will walk away knowing I’ve given my all.

“I knew when I took on the role that this was going to be a tough period for English cricket and I would need time and support to get new players through.

“My frustration is not being given that time.”

Moores took charge of the England team for a second time 12 months ago but they have endured a difficult year under his guidance.

Strauss has been handed his new role following the recent sacking of Paul Downton as the ECB’s managing director.

Assistant coach Paul Farbrace will take charge of the England side for the two-Test series against New Zealand, which starts on May 21st.
