Mineiro win at Paranaense to maintain their 100% start

Mineiro win at Paranaense

Reigning league champions Atlético Mineiro won 1-0 at Athlético Paranaense to share the league lead with Corinthians. Both are the only teams to still hold a 100% record after the second round of games.

Atlético Mineiro have not lost for more than two months in all competitions and already look to be one of the title candidates. Meanwhile, the defeat meant that Atlético Paranaense are bottom of the league with zero points from their first two matches.

The first half was evenly contested with the goalkeeper of Paranaense, Bento, proving difficult to beat. The deadlock was broken by Argentine midfielder Matías Zaracho, who hit a powerful shot that stunned Bento in the opening minutes of the second half.

Mineiro had to show their defensive strengths and had to thank their defender Guilherme Arana for preventing a Paranaense’s equaliser on two occasions

Next week Mineiro will host Coritiba while Corinthians will visit the champions of the last Copa Libertadores, Palmeiras, who have made a difficult start in the league.
