Alajuelense’s comeback to defeat Perez Zeledón 3-1

Top of the table Alajuelense came back from a difficult start to beat Perez Zeledón 3-1.

From the opening, Mid-table Perez Zeledón were having a hard time against a dominant Alajuelense side. However the current leaders found it hard to break down the visitors and find the space to break the score.

A defensive error from Alajuelense in the 32nd minute gave Zeledón a surprise lead. Striker Justin Monge opened the scoring with his first goal of the season.

It didn’t take long for Zeledón’s defence to fall apart. The equaliser came at the end of the first half with a great header from former Fulham forward Bryan Ruiz, after a corner kick. The comeback was completed two minutes after half time when Freddy Gondola’s found the net. In the second half the dominance of Alajuelense was absolute and in minute 57 came their third goal, and Ruiz’s second of the night. It secured an impressive victory for the home side.

With second placed Cartaginés drawing 2-2 with Sporting San José, it meant that Alajuelense are now 4 points ahead at the top.
