Defeat at LDU Quito ends Barcelona’s unbeaten start

LDU Quito 2-0 Barcelona

LDU Quito beat league leaders Barcelona SC to move into second place in the table. The defeat meant that Barcelona lost their unbeaten start in the league and LDU Quito now sit three points behind the Guayaquil team.

Following their loss at Lanús in the Sudamericana Cup, Barcelona’s coach Jorge Célico, confirmed the injury of five key players. Among them was their captain, Argentine midfielder Damián Díaz. With many team changes for their visit to the Estadio Rodrigo Paz Delgado, they knew it was going to be a difficult game. That proved to be the case as they went down 2-0.

LDU Quito’s goals were scored by Alexander Alvarado and Franklin Guerra. In addition to the injured players, Célico will not be able to count on Michael Carcelén for their next match after he was sent off in the 70th minute.

LDU Quito play Mushuc Runa in their next match and will look to build on this result in their challenge for the title.
