Newell’s suffer defeat at home against San Lorenzo

Newell’s 1-2 San Lorenzo

San Lorenzo won 2-1 against a lacklustre Newell’s at the Estadio Coloso Del Parque Marcelo Bielsa to put a dent in the qualification hopes of La Lepra.

San Lorenzo have been going through an institutional and economic crisis, so this win could prove vital in their league hopes.

After seeing the resignation of Pedro Troglio at San Lorenzo, it was Javier Sanguinetti’s team who would have entered the game confident of getting a result.

However the responsibility assumed by the young players of San Lorenzo was enough to take three points from their visit to Rosario.

After an electrifying counterattack, San Lorenzo’s Agustín Martegani scored in the 26th minute of the first half. Federico Gattoni scored the second goal of the night in the 60th minute, achieving three goals in three games. Cristian Lema’s goal in the 68th minute was not enough to obtain the equaliser as they lost 2-1.

With this result, Newell’s are now third with 23 points, two points more than Sarmiento and Argentinos Juniors, but with one game more played than their pursuers.
