Great Britain are now just one match away from securing a Davis Cup World Group final play-off against either Argentina or Belgium.

Murray will take to the court first against top ranked Australian Tomic in a bid to keep up his undefeated record at the tie. The World No. 3 said he was drained after his marathon five-set 4-6, 6-3, 6-4, 6-7 (4), 6-4 doubles victory with brother Jamie against Australian veteran Lleyton Hewitt and Sam Groth. However, Murray had benefited from a rather clinical 6-3, 6-0, 6-3 victory against Tomic’s compatriot Thanasi Kokkinakis on day one.

Murray leads the head-to-head record 2-0 against Tomic, although they have not played against each other since 2013 and moreover they have never clashed at a Davis Cup.

Tomic defeated 300th ranked Dan Evans 6-3, 7-6 (2), 6-7 (4), 6-4 in the other singles action on Day One to level the tie at 1-1. But this match against Murray is now a must win for him in order to keep Australia’s hopes alive. However, Tomic will not only have to battle Murray, but also the passionate home crowd.

If Murray triumphs, Great Britain will consequently gain the unassailable 3-1 lead, with Kokkinakis’ singles match against Evans becoming a dead rubber. However, if Tomic can pull off the upset to level the tie at 2-2, it will all come down to that final singles rubber.
