Preview:

While Group Stan Smith commenced singles action on day one of the season finale tournament on Sunday, Andy Murray and David Ferrer will take to the court first for Group Ilie Nastase today.

Murray and Ferrer join Rafael Nadal and Stan Wawrinka in the Group, while World No. 1 and three-time defending champion Novak Djokovic, record six-time champion Roger Federer, 2014 US Open finalist Kei Nishikori and potential dark horse Tomas Berdych make up Group Stan Smith. The top two players from each respective Group are then scheduled to compete in the semi-finals and ultimately the final to decide the overall winner.

Neither Murray or Ferrer have ever triumphed at the ATP World Tour Finals. In fact Djokovic and Federer are the only active players this week who have previously won the title.

Murray is a former semi-finalist, having achieved the feat on three prior occasions in 2008, 2010 and 2012. Meanwhile, Ferrer is a former finalist, however he achieved this career-best performance when the tournament was still known as the Tennis Masters Cup and played in Shanghai. His best result in London includes a semi-final appearance in 2011.

Murray and Ferrer have met 17 times previously, with Murray leading the overall head-to-head 11-6, including two victories this season to date. Ferrer pushed Murray to four sets on the clay at Roland Garros, but in their most recent meeting, Murray was successful in straight sets 6-4, 6-3 on the indoor hard courts in Paris.
