Sada Cruzeiro Wins Seventh Brazilian Superliga Title

Sada Cruzeiro Wins Superliga

Sada Cruzeiro’s trophy case, already the most impressive in Brazil’s Superliga, got a bit more crowded this past weekend.

The reigning world champions stunned their in-state rivals Fiat Gerdau Minas in straight sets to capture their seventh Superliga championship. 25-year-old outside hitter Miguel Angel Lopez of Cuba took home MVP honours.

“This was an amazing season and such an important result,” said Lopez. “It was my first Superliga final and I really wanted to win it. We were able to create a really united group with our players and coaching staff and left everything on the court every match of the season.”

The Superliga championship is Sada Cruzeiro’s seventh in ten years and caps a remarkable season of play for the team. Sada Cruzeiro also finished first at the FIVB Volleyball Men’s Club World Championship, the South American Club Championship, the Brazilian Supercup, and the Mineiro Championship. Their only tournament loss was the Brazilian Cup, which was won by Minas.
