Steelers Interview Whaley For General Manager

Whaley Interviewed By Steelers

The Pittsburgh Steelers have reportedly interviewed 16 candidates to replace general manager Kevin Colbert, and their search may be nearing an end.

On Monday, NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero reported that the Steelers will be bringing in former Buffalo Bills’ GM Doug Whaley for a second interview. Whaley is a Pittsburgh native who played college ball with the Pitt Panthers. He then served as the Buffalo Bills’ GM from 2013 to 2017.

Though the Bills only went 30-34 during Whaley’s tenure, in 2014 he oversaw the franchise’s first winning season in over a decade. Whaley also drafted several notable players including Sammy Watkins, Robert Woods, and Dion Dawkins. He currently works for the XFL as the senior vice president of player personnel.

Ryan Cowden and John Spytek, vice presidents of player personnel for the Tennessee Titans and Tampa Bay Buccaneers respectively, are also reported to be finalists for the Steelers GM job. However, unlike Whaley, neither has prior experience as an NFL GM.
