Hawaii Ends North Greenville’s Historic Season

North Greenville Falls To Hawaii

On Tuesday, the North Greenville Crusaders Men’s Volleyball team fell to the Hawaii Rainbow Warriors in the second round of the NCAA Tournament.

Despite standout efforts from Gregory Torres, Brandon Baker, and Michael de la Cruz, the Crusaders were simply no match for the high-powered Rainbow Warriors. Hawaii dominated North Greenville from start to finish, ending the Crusaders’ championship run in a 3-0 sweep.

Though fans in North Carolina and Puerto Rico, where five of the Crusaders hail from, will surely be disappointed by Tuesday’s outcome, they must applaud North Greenville’s historic run. The fact that a small Division II team could earn Conference Carolinas’ first NCAA Tournament, then knock off a powerful Princeton squad in the opening round is nothing short of incredible. No matter who ultimately wins the tournament, fans of the sport will be talking about this Crusaders team for years to come.

Besides, the fun might not be done. Most of the Crusaders squad will be returning next year, including Torres and de la Cruz. Perhaps this season was merely a taste of greater things to come?
