Torres Leads North Greenville To Historic Win Over Princeton

Torres Leads North Greenville In Win

On Sunday, Gregory Torres recorded 19 kills in the North Greenville Crusaders’ shocking upset win over the Princeton Tigers in the first round of the NCAA National Men’s Collegiate Volleyball Championship Tournament.

The win wasn’t just the Crusaders’ first NCAA Tournament win, but the first by any Conference Carolinas team, and what a win it was. The Crusaders bullied the Tigers from start to finish, winning three sets in a row by the scores of 25-21, 25-18, and 40-38.

Torres led the charge for the Crusaders, notching 19 kills and a block. His fellow Puerto Rican teammate, Michael de la Cruz, was also excellent, recording 10 kills, three aces, and two blocks. Torres and de la Cruz were joined in their winning effort by three other Puerto Rican teammates: Sergio Carrillo, Emanuel Adames, and Diego Rosich.

“Gregory Torres had a great game tonight,” the retiring North Greenville coach Fred Battenfield said, “That was history.”
