Minas Tênis Clube Wins Third Consecutive Superliga Title

Minas Wins Third Straight Superliga Title

Last week, Minas Tênis Clube won its third straight Superliga title, firmly establishing the team as a dynasty in Brazil’s premier women’s volleyball league.

It’s hard to call a victory “surprising” when won by a team coming off two straight championships and boasting five Olympians on its roster. Still, when Minas squared off against Dentil Praia Clube on Friday the team was seeking to snap a season-long five-match losing streak against its in-state rival.

In front of around 9,000 fans at the Nilson Nelson Arena in Brasilia, Minas knocked off Praia 3-1 to win the Superliga championship. Setter Macris Carneiro led the way for Minas, earning her second Superliga MVP award and seventh selection as the league’s best setter.

“To stand at the top of the podium at the end of such a challenging season makes us all very proud,” Carneiro said after the win.

Volleyball fans in Brasilia can next catch sporting action at the Nilson Nelson Arena in June when it hosts the Volleyball Nations League.
