Puerto Rican Quintet Leads North Greenville To NCAA Tournament

Led by a quintet of Puerto Rican players, the North Greenville Crusaders Men’s Volleyball won its first ever NCAA Tournament bid. Saturday, the Crusaders, who compete at the Division II level, won the Conference Carolinas Championship and clinched their bid to the NCAA tournament by defeating Mount Olive on their home court 25-22, 23-25, 25-16, 21-25, 15-7. Leading the way for the Crusaders were five Puerto Rican players: Sergio Carrillo, Diego Rosich, Gregory Torres, Emanuel Adames, and Michael de la Cruz, who was recently named Conference Carolinas Freshman of the Year. Torres’ performance in particular was one for the ages. The freshman from Caguas led the Crusaders with 25 kills. He also added an assist, four aces, three blocks, and 10 digs. The Crusaders will open the NCAA Tournament on May 1st against the Princeton Tigers. If they win that matchup, they’ll play the Hawaii Rainbow Warriors in the quarterfinals.
