Women’s Volleyball World Beach Pro Tour in Itapema

Americans Topple Dutch in Brazil

Sara Hughes and Kelley Kolinske just needed three tournaments to reach the top of the Volleyball World Beach Pro Tour podium. The Americans put up a fantastic show in Brazil to win the Itapema Challenge.

Hughes and Kolinske, who finished ninth at the Tlaxcala Challenge and fifth at the Rosarito Elite16 last month, made significant progress over the weekend at Meia Praia Beach, culminating in a spectacular straight-set (21-18, 21-18) victory over Raisa Schoon and Katja Stam in the gold medal match in Itapema.

The hosts, Brazil, were also represented on the podium by Andressa Cavalcanti and Vitoria Rodrigues. The two, who had previously finished third in an FIVB World Tour event in Prague in August, finished third again in Itapema, delighting the home crowd. They will be hoping to progress and go one step further in Doha in a couple of weeks.
