Mayor Calls For Another NFL Team In Dallas

Dallas Mayor Wants Another NFL Team

Last week, Dallas Mayor Eric Johnson continued Texas’ longstanding tradition of chest-beating self-promotion by calling for the NFL to place another franchise in his city.

Citing Dallas’ growing population and affinity for football, Johnson argued that his city is the logical location for an expansion team, or a struggling franchise looking to move.

“We need an AFC team that plays in Southern Dallas,” posted Johnson. “It would never want for a fan base or attendance or support from the City of Dallas. Who wouldn’t want to see a Dallas versus Dallas Super Bowl … in the City of Dallas?”

Cynical commentators may argue that Johnson is merely bored with watching the city’s current NFL team, the Dallas Cowboys. Though one of the league’s most historic franchises, the Cowboys have been thoroughly mediocre in recent years, and haven’t won a Super Bowl since 1995.

Despite their on-field woes, Cowboys owner Jerry Jones maintains tremendous influence over NFL leadership, and it’s doubtful that the league would expand into his city without his consent.
